Cinémathèque Québécoise
The main mission of this major institution is to acquire, document and safeguard Quebec’s film heritage. It houses the largest collection of films, videos and television archives in Canada, and its media library is one of the foremost film documentation centers in North America. The Cinémathèque québécoise offers more than 1,500 film and video screenings from all eras and all countries every year! Since 1997, the Cinémathèque has had two specialized rooms: the Raoul-Barré room for permanent exhibitions and the Norman-McLaren room for temporary exhibitions. Since 2006, the Cinémathèque has been coordinating the legal deposit of Quebec films. The Cinémathèque also houses the Centre d’art et d’essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ), which programs documentaries and independent films in its theatres. The Cinémathèque also produces the Sommets du cinéma d'animation, held every spring.
