Friday I’m in love with new music with the Concerts à Gamelin

Concerts à Gamelin
Fridays from 6 to 11 p.m.

The Concerts à Gamelin series is the ideal way to start your weekend: live music outdoors amid the delightful buzz of a Montreal summer. As is tradition in Les Jardins Gamelin, new artists are front and centre! June 5, feel the heat with the ultra-energetic salsa of MARZOS (a Syli d’or discovery). June 19, raw drums meet blues guitar and soul vocals to create the entrancing blues and jazz of Hendry Massamba (MUZ 2026 cohort). On June 26, Veranda is a bluegrass/country/folk duo who’ll keep you entertained all night – the perfect way to close out the week of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Be there on July 3 for some topical, subversive and sensitive hip-hop courtesy of Sloan Lucas and Big Swiss, the latter accompanied by a live band. And on August 14, Emma Beko presents her new album, Cicada, a delightful blend of alt-pop, hip-hop, folk and emo.

Salsa with Espace Yambae
Saturdays from 7 to 11 p.m.

Enjoy a relaxing Saturday afternoon at the Laboratoire du vivant partagé. In this series, the Exeko organization presents workshops – pottery, vegetable dyeing, crafts – where you can make all kinds of items using materials sourced from urban nature. It’s an invitation to awaken your senses in a pleasant setting. Then, in the evening, shake it to fiery Latin rhythms with Espace Yambae. Whether you’re new to salsa or a lifelong devotee, come cut a rug alongside the salsa pros. This is one of the Jardins’ most popular series – the terrasse is always packed, the atmosphere is pure fun and there are plenty of dancers even when it rains!

The team’s favourites

Street dance battles with 100Lux
June 9 starting at 6 p.m.

The theme of this edition is “BPM Gradient,” a special battle format focused on the relationship between speed and accuracy. The music has a minimum of 130 bpm, outside the midtempo comfort zone. You’ll see how the dancers maintain their clarity, phrasing and musicality as the cadence ratchets up from an already brisk tempo to an extreme one.

Kimmortal
July 31 at 7 p.m.

This Canadian-Filipino queer multidisciplinary artist (iel/they) approaches music as a collective salve and a tool of liberation! On the menu: subversive poetry, hip-hop beats and 100% irresistible musicality.
