This lecture by Carol F. Lee will tell the closely intertwined stories of the Wing’s businesses and the Lee family in Montreal, from the turn of the 20th century to 1964. Wing's began as an importer, grocery, and herbal medicine store and pivoted after World War II to manufacturing noodles, fortune cookies, and sauces. Through this entrepreneurial and family journey, an important chapter in the history of Chinese immigration to Montreal also comes into view. Hard work, resilience, family solidarity, and a strong commitment to the community shaped not only the evolution of Wing’s, but also part of the social and cultural fabric of Chinatown. This presentation will highlight these essential contributions to Montreal’s collective memory. This lecture will be offered in English.
