L’éther

In her latest work, Montreal’s iconic theatre artist Marie Brassard explores nothing less than the limits of existence, inspired by an extraordinary hallucination she once experienced.

Moving between past and present, youth and old age, she channels the voices of loved ones whose lives took the road less travelled. Guided by her memories of these colourful personalities with an immense appetite for life, she pushes against the boundaries of reality.

Brassard’s eighth work to appear at FTA, The Ether takes the bold experimentation in theatre she has been pursuing for more than two decades to a whole new level. She is joined on stage by her musical collaborator Alexander McSween, who adds sonic textures that combine the organic and the electric. The Ether tackles the mysteries of death by exploring what we recognize without knowing and understand without seeing.
