Somewhere in the city, a forest of legs grows, reaching for the sky. Each of these body-trees is unique but also part of something bigger. Rising and falling, they struggle to keep their impermanent grove alive amid the concrete of the urban jungle. The spectacle is at once astonishing and alarming: how long can these upside-down beings continue to defy gravity, decay, and death? A poetic and political occupation of public space by Brazil’s Clarice Lima, Bosque stimulates the imagination and celebrates the power of community wherever it is performed. At FTA, thirty Montrealers bring this improbable natural phenomenon to life, putting their heads to the ground and raising their legs, wide skirts unfolding into colorful trees. Bosque is an act of beauty in the face of environmental threat, a commitment to the planet, and a gesture of solidarity with our forests.
